There's a couple of others ways of being able to connect to the server if you're having issues through the game.
In Firefox, you can open rFactor straight to the server through this link: rfactor://91.227.221.79:34308.
Also, if you hit your windows key and r at the same time, it will bring up your run window. Once you've done that, you simply copy and paste the above link into text bar and hit OK.
