Season 2 -- Series Discussion Empty Season 2 -- Series Discussion

Post by John Bacho Sat 20 Jul - 22:22

Now that Season 1 is officially over, please download the new version of the mod and try it! Here's the link (also found in the download section):

BES 2012 v1.2 -- The readme says: "(IF YOU HAVE AN OLDER VERSION OF THE MOD PLEASE ERASE OLD SOUNDS FOLDER BEFORE INSTALLING BES SP1.2)" -- Otherwise, I believe this is the entire mod and not simply a patch.

-Slightly heavier cars (lap times are a tad lower than before)
-Different tyre model (temps spike on mistakes but recover quickly)
-Fixed gear ratios (no upgrade for adjustable gears)
-Not as much play in the setup (springs can't go super low, yay)
    -100% Brake pressure
-Limited downforce options (setting of 1 locked for the front, 6 max on the rear)
-Speed between cars is still balanced
    -Glorious sounds!

I'll try to get the server updated with the mod today. You'll know when it's changed because the server RFM will read BES_2012_1.2 like you've probably seen in matchmaker. Any tracks I put up for testing (ala the provisional schedule) I'll include download links in the root post.

Are the sounds vastly different to the updates for the old mod? I didn't bother to read the read me until afterwards...

Also, is it just me or are the brakes a little weaker all round in the new version? Drove the Merc and Audi around Bathurst a little, still loads of fun and I can tell that there are subtle differences between mods. Still, awesome!

If you downloaded the soundpack that Bailey uploaded for us, those were from v1.2 of BES. So I think you're fine!

And yes...I'll probably just create a new sub-forum for the different seasos and put the appropriate threads in their correct places. I'm still waking up.

Long Beach?! Shocked Didn't realise we were looking to start that soon after season 1 was finished.

Yeah. Still time to delay it maybe another week. I don't think there's a big adjustment from one mod to another, but if I want to put out a couple PUBLIC announcements for people to join, we might need to give 'em a couple weeks.

I really want to see 25 cars on the grid...

I think there is a 2012 version of Mosport out there somewhere...why not use that?

Post a link if you have it. It's probably the same geometry, but I'd be curious if they changed anything else. I'm actually enjoying the slippy kerbs in the '09 version.

I think you are right, same geometry and overall track textures, but everything else seems to be updated to 2012 CTMP.

I like v1.2. The steering feels better.

I especially enjoy the tyres. They heat up very quickly if you crank over too much steering or get the line wrong. If I can take it easy for the next corner I notice they cool down just as fast. As per Anders teaching lesson yesterday, the mod really forces us to drive smoothly and mind the peak tyre temps.

Also know: I allowed LOW traction control and anti-lock brakes on the server.

Experiment with it if you please! The real Blancpain cars have it, otherwise I'd be turning my nose at the idea. This version of the mod has a bit more slip at the rear, and possibly wears a bit quicker as a result. I don't know if the physics creators intended to have it enabled, but it's worth a test.

Early testing shows that ABS and TC is a bit more stable, but slower. That's good at least!
