To start off with, we are inviting people to take part in the series. These will be people we know from other leagues, past seasons here and GripTV members for the most part. These people will be asked firstly if they want to take part, then secondly, which car they want to drive based on where they think they are ability wise and/or where they finished in our 1997 series last year. Once that is over, sign up will be opened up to other people outside of the invitations. Once all spots are filled, we will take on reserve drivers. If you want to sign up as a reserve, simply use the structure listed above the sign up list with reserve instead of the team name. As a reserve, to drive a car vacated by a full season sign up for a race, you must post in the weekly race thread, once that thread is up. Can drivers please ensure they use the name they signed up with in-game.
Here is a list of how the cars performed in 2000 to aid you with your choice:
Ferrari - 10 wins, 5 2nd's, 5 3rd's - 170 pts. First drivers title since 1979 with Schumacher winning the last four races of the season to seal the title. Second consecutive constructors title.
McLaren - 7 wins, 9 2nd's, 5 3rd's - 152 pts. Too many mistakes, too inconsistent and too many mechanical failures cost the team both titles.
Williams - 3 3rd's - 36 points. Successful first season for the Williams BMW partnership. Regular points scorer and occasional podium threat.
Benetton - 1 2nd, 2 3rd's - 20 pts. Boosted by podiums in the first half the season, but a very poor second half of the season with only one points finish.
BAR - 10 points finishes, 4 4th's - 20 pts. Solid, points scoring car, but never really threatening more than that.
Jordan - 2 3rd's - 17 pts. A much better car than the points suggest. Plagued by reliability issues.
Arrows - 4 points finishes, 1 4th - 7 pts. On its day, as quick as anything behind McLaren and Ferrari, but inconsistency and unreliability led to less points than the car should have scored.
Sauber - 4 points finishes, 1 5th - 6 pts. A fairly typical Sauber season, not particularly, picking up the pieces of the teams in front for occasional points.
Jaguar - 2 points finishes, 1 4th - 4 pts. Slow and luckless. Herbert and Irvine occasionally had it running well, but for the most part, a very poor year.
Minardi - 0 pts. A couple of notable top ten performances for the perennial backmarkers, but never threatening the points
Prost - 0 pts. A truly awful season for Alain Prost's team, with their two drivers twice colliding. The team finished with a combined 23 retirements. Last due to less 8th place finishes than Minardi.
If you miss THREE consecutive events, you will lose your guaranteed spot in that team and it will become open for selection to a reserve driver. You can then choose sign up for another seat if it becomes available, or simply sign up as a reserve for the rest of the season. If you miss two consecutive events without posting that you can't make it, you will lose your seat and it will be available to select by the current reserve driver list.
To sign up, simply post in this format: #1 McLaren Mercedes - Ian Mills
